From the first minutes of our visit, I found that Hoi An is one of the most colorful, authentic and beautiful places in Vietnam. But nightfall it turns into a true fairy tale: the canals flourish with the magic lights of numerous lanterns! Local people are good judges of this kind of thing – the lantern craft of Hoi An has existed for 300 years.
The narrow streets are full of the antique shops and workshops presenting a range of Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese and other cultures. The numerous canals, reminding the Western beauty - Venice. The fisherman's boats going up and down by the river.
Everything as it was 300 years ago as if this country never had any wars, revolutions, and influence of modernity. It is hard to believe that a couple of thousand years ago this small calm town was the largest city in Southeast Asia, the birthplace of Vietnamese writing and the capital of the Champa Empire!

How to get to Hoi An:
Unfortunately, it is impossible for foreigners to rent a car in Vietnam. We used the Open Bus service provided by Sinhcafe tourist company, which operates in Vietnam and Cambogia. We chose them because they are very flexible - they can help you in organizing either only some parts of your trip or a long tour as a whole, whichever you prefer. The prices are reasonable and the quality of service is up to standards.
Where to stay in Hoi An:
Hoi An abounds in nice, small hotels, each of which has its own charm. I can recommend Vaia Boutique Hotel because of its homely atmosphere and friendly staff.
Weather and climate in Hoi An:
It is warm all year round, with an average temperature of about 29°C. During the summer months, the temperature might reach 38°C. The most comfortable time to visit Hoi An is winter when you can enjoy the temperature range of 20–26°C during the day. The dry season is from February to July, whereas the rain season with heavy rains takes place from September to the beginning of January, with the peak in October and November.
When planning your trip to Vietnam, determine when the Full Moon Festival is going to be held that year, and go to Hoi An. You will find yourself inside of the very special Vietnamese fairy tale, enjoying the traditional dancing, songs, and food.
In contrast with the big cities of Vietnam, Hoi An is very quiet. Whether you walk, sit in one of the cozy cafes or sail on a typical boat, you feel tranquil and relaxed each and every moment of your journey.
